A striking visual collage of a legendary NHL franchise! This is a beautiful piece of art doubling as a chronology of the Chicago Blackhawks organization. Depicting over 900 players, 44 Hall of Famers, 15 Division Championships and 4 Stanley Cups, this tree provides a comprehensive display of the Blackhawks entire history. Each player and achievement in the tree, from Bobby Hull and the '61 Cup to Jonathan Toews and the 2010 championship, is arranged in chronological order and sized by significance, with a plethora of fonts and icons used to add distinction to the piece. The Chicago Blackhawks Tree is a terrific piece of art that will dazzle and educate.

The roots of the Blackhawks tree showcase their two arenas. The legendary Chicago Stadium, home of the team up until 1993, is on the right, while the United Center, steadily accumulating a proud history of its own, sits on the left. In the background lies the Chicago skyline, with the city’s two most famous skyscrapers, the Sears Tower and the John Hancock building, most prominent. In the foreground are signs for the United Center, the Madhouse on Madison (nickname for the UC) and the Chicago Coliseum, the Blackhawks first stadium. Finally, a giant hockey puck and hockey stick bookend the roots, completing the essential elements of the ‘Hawks organization.

My idea was to see if we could come up with a good way of adapting the digital age to what Bruce Burton had been doing since the late 70’s. Bruce had taken decades to develop his style and technique. So it isn’t surprising that even after four years, I have only begun to make a contribution to the art itself with the Blackhawks Tree, and perhaps my small Brasil World Cup Bonzai... but I'm getting way ahead of my self, let's go back to the beginning.

The ensuing challenge was to determine our next steps. Bruce had his own side businesses with his Trees, and had maintained a booth at the Volo Antiques Market for decades. As a web-designer/ developer it was obvious that I had to take the reigns in many aspects in order to keep all our costs down. Unlike the past where I had a client that needed a finite amount of work, I had become the co-owner of a company and creator of a brand.

A Note on Framing

A Note on Framing

Framed prints look great and ship in finished form. The trees are displayed prominently and beautifully. All you have to do is hang the tree on your wall.

Our unique and affordable framing option uses an acrylic called Liquitex to protect the prints. Perhaps the nicest part of Liquitex framing is the absence of glare that plagues glass-covered art. Additionally, it protects the prints from dust and fading. The prints are also laminated to protect from UV discoloration and then placed in a 2-inch black frame.

A framed Burton History Tree will look great in your home, office, mancave, or wherever else you’d like to hang it.

Drew Wasserman, co-author of "Family Tree of Chicago Blackhawks," tries to see if he has what it takes to be a play-by-play announcer at Training Camp Festival 2011. Thanks to Dave Knickerbocker and the entire Blackhawks organization for putting on such an incredible show for their fans.
